Computer Hardware Maintenance. NWOCA will also supply to our member districts hardware maintenance on district-owned computer hardware manufactured by Digital Equipment Corporation(DEC), or several other supported brands. Since NWOCA performs self-maintenance on all its own terminal and microcomputer equipment this service can be provided to our member districts at a cost far below that which could be obtained elsewhere. Districts may obtain this service from NWOCA on a 'per-call' basis or under a fixed-price maintenance contract.

Basic NWOCA Package. For all member districts NWOCA supplies one video terminal and one printing terminal, and the necessary modems and multiplexer equipment to support these two terminals which are reserved for usage by the district's Treasurer's Office. Ownership of this equipment remains with NWOCA, and all maintenance and/or replacement of this equipment is performed by NWOCA.

Basic membership also allocates each member district the ability to connect up to eight terminals to the NWOCA mainframes, (six in addition to the two supplied by NWOCA for the Treasurer's Office). Additional terminals must be purchased by the member district. NWOCA will obtain these units for the member district and install them for the district for a nominal fee. Districts desiring to connect more than the allotted eight terminals or microcomputers will be assessed a Port Availability Fee to support the additional equipment NWOCA must purchase and maintain to handle the increased load. The Port Availability Fee is $40 per year per port beyond the allocated eight. Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity is charged at $40 per year per network device, up to $800 per logical LAN per year.

NWOCA provides data communications services to the central ad ministrative area at each school district at no additional cost to the district. If additional buildings and/or service areas within the district require increased data communications services those will be obtained on behalf of the district by NWOCA, but the district will bear the operational costs of that service. In addition, at the time of installation of the additional data communications equipment the district will be billed for a Communications System Assessment in an amount equivalent to the cost of the increased data communications equipment acquired to support the service. However, ownership of the installed equipment and all future hardware maintenance or replacement costs will be assumed by NWOCA. No equipment may be attached to the NWOCA communications network directly or indirectly without the express written consent of NWOCA. These steps are taken to insure reliability, information security, and flexibility in the data communications system so that NWOCA can make any needed changes throughout the system without displacing the services provided to any other member district.

Home Hookup. NWOCA provides home hook-ups to district staff members when feasible. A home hook-up request must come from a NWOCA member district. NWOCA will not provide hook-ups on the request of private individuals. Those receiving home hook-ups must provide their own computers and modems. Public domain communication software will be provided by NWOCA if requested. Districts will be billed $72.00 per year for each home hook-up.
