Hatchet

Hatchet is about a teenager named Brian who has gone through a divorce between his parents. at the air port, his mom gave Brian a hatchet. Brian is sitting next to the pilot in a single engine plane heading for the Canadian wilderness, where he would visit his father for the first time since the divorce. Brian is haunted by thoughts of the divorce and his knowledge of the secret that caused the divorce. Just then the pilot had a heart attack and died. The plane crashed into an L-shaped lake. Brian was a sole survivor, left with only his clothes on his back and his hatchet. He must learn how to survive.
      This is a very good adventure book. Gary Paulsen also wrote The Car, The Crossing, Dog- song, and Tracker. Teenagers will love this book.
       It is a 1988 Newbery Honor Book.
