Invitation to the Game
Monica Hughes

This story takes place in the 23rd century. These people just graduated from school. Since it's the 23rd century, almost everything is run by robots. This girl named Lisse wants to be assigned a job with her friends because if you get a certain grade in school when you graduate, then you are assigned a certain job by robots. If you don't get good grades then you are assigned to unemployment. Unemployment is something where you and others go and you can never see your friends and family ever again, and you only live to be about 80 years old. Well, Lisse got unemployment and she and some other people got sent to this house. Then they got his invitation to this game. The game is something that has you and others in reclining chairs and you close your eyes. Then you're in this desert where you have to survive.

In the first level, if you get hurt then you go back and wake up and the level is over. Then the second level is forever.  Lisse's friend and this other guy from her school got sent there too so they could see each other again, but Lisse's friend or the other guy didn't want to go in the first place they just got sent. They were happy with they life they had as working at there homes.  Lisse's friend was working on a farm with her dad and the other guy was a psychiatrist. They all have to survive the desert forever and then they have to create their own world by having children and then their children will have children, soon they can never go back to their real world with the robots and other things.

I liked this book a lot. It was an adventure book. I would recommend this book to 7th to 9th graders.
