The Late Great Me
Sandra Scoppettone
| This book is about
a girl named Geri Peters. She is seventeen years old, and a junior in high
school. She meets a guy who is also a junior in high school. They go on
a date and he brings liquor. That is when it all started. Everywhere Geri
goes with Dave, there is always liquor involved.
Geri 's teacher notices that her grades start to fall, and she asks her if shes been drinking. Geri says that shes never done anything. One night her teacher saw her at a bar drinking with Dave. Geri got out of control that night, and took all her clothes of in front of her teacher. She finally confesses to her teacher that she has been drinking. Her teacher becomes her best friend, and she takes Geri to meetings that are called Alcoholics Anonymous. She agrees to go to one of the meetings. Geri learns alot of people go there that she has seen in bars before. Her teacher used to be an alcoholic until she went to one of these meetings. Now Geri is cured and does not drink anymore. She also helps one of her best friends from becoming an alcoholic by going to one of these meetings. I liked this book because it was interesting how she got cured. Also I thought is was cool how her teacher was an alcoholic and helped her through her tough times. I might recommend this book to someone who is an alcoholic or someone that just got over being an alcoholic. Also I might recommend this book to teenagers who drink and want to quit.
