The Middle School offers several academic enhancing programs for the students. They include:M.I.S.S.I.L.E. program; Quest; and the annual spring academic awards program. There are several organizations and clubs for students. They include: Student Council and National Honor Society. There are also parent and teacher run organizations such as the Athletic Boosters, and Band Boosters. Holgate is a member of the Green Meadows Conference, an athletic league of eight area schools. Holgate has a very successful sports program. Sports are offered for seventh and eighth grade students. Boys sports include Football, Cross Country, Golf (Co-ed), Basketball, and Track. Girls sports include Volleyball, Cross Country, Golf (Co-ed), and Basketball. Holgate has a strong band program headed by Mr. Doug Perry. Holgate is a member of the Ohio Music Educators Association. There are two bands: Sixth Grade band and Junior High Band. The band has taken trips to Cedar Point and goes to OMEA concert band contests. Holgate also has a strong choir program led by Mrs. Cathy Buchholz. There are three choirs: sixth grade chorus, junior high chorus, and the swing choir. The swing choir is a special group of singers who must try out to join. They sing several concerts a year for malls and meetings.
