TINORA JUNIOR HIGH ACADEMIC PROGRAM


2nd QUARTER

Ohio History
Read one book from a selected reading area and make a written book report.

3rd QUARTER

Western Civilization
Read one book from a selected reading area and make an oral presentation in class.

This program does not include all reading assignments but is to be used as a guidance for all other reading assignments to work around in our Junior High.

Novel requirements must be met or students will be required to attend summer school to fulfill these obligations.

Grade 8

3rd Quarter

American History
Read one book on a designated topic and present a written or oral report to the class.

4th Quarter

English
A writing competency test will be administered to all students. Students will be required to write a short story using correct grammar and punctuation, correct organizational techniques and proper penmanship.



7TH GRADE COMPETENCY TESTING PROGRAM


All seventh grade students will be administered competency testing in the areas of Math, Reading, and Writing according to the following schedule:

Once we have initiated the program, it will continue on. Students will receive a passing or failing mark on all competency tests according to the Defiance County Schools and Northeastem Local Competency Testing Scale.
All seventh grade students who are found to be incompetent in one or more of the above areas will receive the following intervention program.

  1. Students will be placed in a remedial section for his or her area of deficiency for the eighth grade year. (A small teacher-to-teacher ratio will be maintained in remedial sections to allow for greater classroom intervention).

  2. All seventh grade students found to be incompetent in Math, English, or Reading will also be sent a letter at the end of their seventh grade year which will recommend they attend the Tinora Junior High Summer School. Summer School will provide intervention in areas that are in need of assistance.
